Like the irregular verbs of the Present indicative, we have also irregular verbs on the present subjunctive.  A subjunctive verb is irregular because it changes its stem. The end of the subjunctive tense do no change, what it changes is the stem.

Stem-changing verbs have the same changes in the stem as they do in the present indicative .You will notice that the subjunctive endings are the same as for regularly formed subjunctive verbs.

Stem changing –ar verbs

Comenzar (e to ie) / to begin

Can you see that the ending is the same for every subjunctive but the stem changes, the e changes to ie?

Stem changing –er verbs

Querer (e to ie) / to want

Stem changing –ir verbs

The only difference that the stem changing -ir verbs have with the present indicative is that the person nosotros changes like the other ones do.

Stem changing –Morir and Dormir

Morir and Dormir are the only verbs that have two stem-changing vowels. Let’s see what I mean..
