This aspect of “estar” indicates how someone or something is appearing now, in a specific situation. While many aspects of one’s appearance remain constant over the long haul (for example, tall, short, big nose or small nose), well, certain aspects of appearance change easily and frequently (bold, clean, dirty, hairy, etc). Think of any house two minutes after the housekeeper has left—it can’t look that clean for long. A coat of paint, the swipe of a dust cloth, the swing of a sledgehammer, and inanimate objects are transformed in appearance.

For example:

•  Michael Jordan es alto. We use is becuase he is in fact tall.

• Salma Hayek está alta. With the help of hill She is tall,
