Stem changing verbs

Stem-changing verbs have only one difference from the regular verbs. The difference is that they change the Stem. The stem of a verb is the form of the verb that remains after you remove the infinitive ending as shown bellow.

1) First conjugation verbs -ar-

Cantar ………………..(Cant)=  “Stem”

2) Second conjugation verbs -er-

Beber ………………..(Beb)=  “Stem”

3) Third conjugation verbs -ir-

Partir ………………..(Part)=  “Stem”

The stem of these irregular verbs have alternation of the last vowel of the Stem and the endings after the stem are conjugated exactly like the regular verbs.

The last vowel of the Stem changes in
